Professor Mathis received his medical degree from the Medical University of Vienna in 1977. He always worked using the ultrasound probe like a stethoscope – next step after clinical examination. During the past two decades he showed a lot of US applications and interventions in pulmonary and bowel diseases. His publications include more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, two books in four languages and, most recently, “Chest Ultrasound”, published by Springer (3nd Ed, 2011). In addition to his clinical work, Professor Mathis spends much of his time on ultrasound education in hands-on courses in central Europe. Currently Professor Mathis is Past President of the Austrian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and Member of the Education and Professional Standards Committee in EFSUMB. |
